Who would fly from San Jose to LA?
I just drove to LA (well, Burbank to be exact), and it was so smooth that I don't know why anyone would fly.
It's 335 miles from my apartment to the hotel that I usually stay at in Burbank. I filled up my tank before I left, and I have about 10% of the tank left, so I figure it cost me $22.50 in gas to drive. So for a round trip, that's only $45. My Saturn gets really good freeway milage.
If I were to fly, a return ticket would cost about $100. Then I have to take a taxi to and from the airport, which in my most recent experience would cost $45 for both ways. Then I would have to get a rental car while I am in LA. I have no idea how much that would cost. I'm guessing $40 for 2 days.
So just monetarily, I've saved $140.
It's also much more smooth. I don't have to worry about getting to the airport on time. I don't have to worry about my carry-on fitting in the overhead bin. I don't have to worry about taking my shoes and other things off at the security checkpoint. I don't have to worry about my ears feeling funny for the whole day.
I left my place at 9:30 am and got here at 2:30 pm. So it took me 5 hours. Longer than flying, but not an absurd amount longer. It's worth it to me for the peace of mind.
