Raiders of the Lost Ark remake at SmartFriends U

I just got back from the SmartFriends U conference, and one of the big highlights was the showing of the remake of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Back around 1982, Chris Strompolis's life changed after he saw Raiders of the Lost Ark. He and his friends got together, and starting at age 12, shot a shot-for-shot remake of the movie. 7 years later they were finally done and they sat on it for about 13 years. We were lucky enough to have Chris Strompolis come to the conference and show the entire movie for us.

The amazingness of this film can not be under stated. It was amazing. They utilized a huge cast of neighborhood kids. They re-created amazing stunts including setting a basement on fire, an action scene on a moving truck, exploding a truck, gun fights - everything. This is a genuine remake of Raiders, so they recreated all the action scenes in the original movie.

I had never seen the original movie yet. I have only seen this remake, and it was amazing. I was on the edge of my seat, constantly amazed at how well this movie turned out, constantly in disbelief that this was made by a number of 12 to 17 year olds, and constantly wondering what I wasted my teenage years on.

Bye Mr. Ritter

John Ritter just suddenly passed away. That really bummed me out. I always enjoyed him in his Three's Company series and the latest 8 Simple Rules series

Perhaps the biggest bummer is the suddenness and untimeliness of his passing. He was young, and no one saw it coming. He should have been around for years to come to make us laugh. His cause of death was something that there was little he could do to detect or prevent.

Jim Short is hilarious

I saw Jim Short perform at the Punchline Comedy Club in San Francisco last night. He was hilarious.

I first saw Jim perform when I went to see Rob Cantrell perform about a month ago at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. Jim was one of the opening acts. He was great. So much so that I actually remembered his name, which isn't something I do very often. I saw him on Comedy Central's Premium Blend the next day.

So I was familiar with Jim Short's work when I saw him last night. It was a really small crowd. I guess Tuesday after Labour Day isn't a big night. But even with only 20 people in the room, he was great. I was laughing so hard that I was crying. And I had even heard some of his material before. He's just that good.

Check him out if you can.

Hot Banana Pepper Rings

There seems to be a lot of confusion over hot banana pepper rings. They are not made from bananas. They are sliced into rings. They are spicy hot.

Hot banana pepper rings are popular in Canada. We put them on hamburgers, hot dogs, pizzas and other things. When I moved to California, I was shocked to see that they do not exist here. I looked in all the supermarkets. Before you suggest Trader Joe's like 20 other people, no, they do not have them either.

They are popular throughout all of Canada, but I've heard maybe they are available on the US east coast as well.

Here are some pictures of some jars I have:

I am not sure if these peppers are grown in Canada or not, but the labels all read "Product of Canada". If you have any information about where these peppers are grown, or what other parts of the world they are available in, please leave a comment.

My thanks to my friend Duane for bringing me these peppers whenever he comes for a visit from Canada.

Bummed about Duckman

I've been watching re-runs of Duckman on Comedy Central for the last little while. Last week on Duckman, Duckman is surprised to see the return of his wife, who he thought was dead. At that moment, "To be continued..." came across the screen.
I was excited to see this week's Duckman rerun, but there was no airing of Duckman. Bewildered and confused, I did some research on the Internet. Turns out, that was the last episode of the series, and so there was no completion to the To Be Continued.
