New G5s Look Sweet
Apple announced the new G5's this week at WWDC. They look pretty spiffy. I'm going to get me one as soon as I can, along with a 17" flat panel monitor. It's going to be so cool. Oh yeah. You bet. Good stuff.

Back from MacHack
It's been an incredibly busy time the last couple weeks, so this entry is quite delayed. I got back 3 days ago.
MacHack is cool. I did a hack this year called Stinkin' Badges. It's not really a hack though - it's just a utility. The problem I wanted to solve is that when the screen saver starts up, I can no longer see the icons in my Dock and so I can't see their badges. So, without waking the screen saver, I can't see if I have new mail, new incoming iChat requests, or new articles from NetNewsWire. So my utility gathers up all the icons that any Cocoa application changes at runtime, and superimposes them on top of the screen saver. This way I can continue to enjoy my screen saver and also easily see if any of my apps need my attention.
I called it Stinkin' Badges because I call the little numbers on application icons "badges". "We don't need no stinkin' badges" is the only phrase I know that includes the word badges. For my efforts, I won some kind of scented thing from Duke's Hardware.
The hack worked as intended, but I'm going to clean it up to "productize" it, and then you'll be able to download it and use it.

See my iTunes music store commercial
You know those Apple TV commercials for the iTunes music store? Well, this past weekend I made my own "spoof" TV commercial. It sounded like a real good idea in my head, but the results didn't live up to my imagination. But check it out here anyways:
People tell me they like it. Maybe they just like seeing me make a fool of myself.

Oh Snapple, why have you forsaken me?
Snapple had a flavour of lemonade that they called Classic Lemonade. It was good and had 10% real juice and was "Made from the best stuff on Earth".
But now they have a different flavour simply called Lemonade. The labeling on the bottle looks identical to Classic Lemonade so you'd be fooled into buying it. But once you do, and you have some, you'll ask yourself, "has this lemonade gone bad?" It's got a nasty aftertaste. After closer inspection, it contains less than 1% real juice. I thought, "That can't be right!".
It's not right. It's wrong. It's not the best stuff on earth anymore. And I still have to pay the same price. Oh Snapple, why have you forsaken me?

Congratulations to Steven Masuch. I'm told that he was awarded the John A. Vink Computer Science scholarship at a ceremony at my old high school, J. L. Crowe Secondary, last night. Don't spend it all in one place. Actually, yes, you should spend it all at your post-secondary educational institution of choice.
I tried googling him, but did find out anything about him.

I lost an eBay auction
I've had a song stuck in my head for the last 9 years. It's a song by Longfellow, who used to go by Baron Longfellow, who used to go by Andy Kim. The song is Powerdrive, and it never appeared on an album, just a CD single.
That CD single recently appeared on eBay. I had been searching eBay for it for years, and it had never appeared, not even once. So when it appeared, I was very excited. It's also a rather obscure Canadian only release, so I didn't think I would have much bidding competition.
I was wrong. There were 4 other bidders, bidding non-trivial amounts. I carefully watched the auciton end. With 2 minutes left, someone outbid me. I wasn't going to bid again though, since I couldn't really justify paying more than $46 plus $3 shipping for a CD single.
So what's the deal? Why is this CD single so valuable to anyone but me?

Keith Explains wrap up
Tonight was the taping of the last episode of the season for Keith Explains. We won't know if the series will be renewed for the fall season for another three weeks, so this might have been the last episode ever. If so, it's been fun. If not, the best is yet to come.
